How to manage your social media presence as a scientist.

I started my blog about 3 years ago, different aim, different topic, different stage of my life, different setting. I was in the middle of my PhD completely isolated and disconnected from my circle of people and I didn’t fit the idea of what an academic is supposed to do, look like or behave. I started the Instagram page later on because it was a good outlet to advertise my blog and promote myself. I wasn’t the only one doing this, loads of other PhD students around the world were using Instagram for personal branding and they started getting some popularity. I tagged along and joined the party.

Approaching the job market in the middle of a global pandemic

It’s always very difficult to say something when the outside world is cracking down, loads of people are dying, we live in isolation far from loved ones and friends. It’s a horrible situation which I decided to address with some sarcasm and silliness because I have spent so much time sorting out my mental health and depression that I won’t let corona destroy all my hard work and progress.

We’ve been 3 weeks into the lockdown here in the UK and I kind of managed to reach a sense of “normality”, whatever this means these days. I wrote about protecting your mental health during a global pandemic about 4 weeks ago, so if you want to read more about it please check my previous article. This article isn’t intended to be a guide on how to survive the quarantine. Everyone is different and people deal with drastic and unexpected situations differently. I just would like to share my experience and help others navigating those unexpected and unprecedente circumstances.
